Emily, 14, is learning to seek after God while developing into young adulthood. She is a volunteer at the Greenwood Public Library and helps with music ministry at Apostolic Family Assembly.
The Vanderhoffs are both graduates of Apostolic Bible Institute, St. Paul, MN. Julia served on the faculty of ABI for two years after her graduation in 1978. Arthur began his studies at ABI in the fall of 1978. When he walked into Julia’s class for the first time, the Lord spoke into his spirit that this was the woman he was to marry. And marry they did in May, 1980, beginning a life of team ministry. After Arthur’s graduation in 1981, the Vanderhoffs assisted a home missionary in Mason City, IA for one year. Arthur has been an ordained minister since 1984.
In September, 1982, they began working as full-time evangelists. Their itinerate ministry spanned over 12 years, taking them to 30 different states, 2 Canadian provinces, over 300 churches and expanding their family from one son to three. Also during that time, Arthur and Julia spent one year in San Diego, CA where Arthur was the administrator and Julia was a teacher at Tabernacle Christian Academy. This was the only year of their K-12 education that Arthur and Ben were not home schooled.
For the next 12.5 years, Arthur was pastor of Calvary Pentecostal Church in Hartford City, IN. During this time, God expanded their ministry to home school families, Arthur and Ben finished their home school, and both attended Indiana Wesleyan University. The Vanderhoffs also home schooled their nephew, Daniel Medrano, from 1996 to 2001. Dan graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with honors and is pursuing graduate studies.
In March 2007, God directed Arthur to resign as pastor in Hartford City. In November, 2008, Arthur’s job relocated their family to Greenwood, IN. In January, 2009, God directed them to plant an elder led, family integrated assembly of house churches: Apostolic Family Assembly. They are currently laboring together with Elder Kevin Bowling and his wife, Julia, who lead a house church in Franklin, IN. Vanderhoffs and Bowlings also coordinate an Apostolic home school fellowship which meets quarterly and serves to network and strengthen Apostolic home school families in the Midwest.
Arthur and Julia are currently enrolled in a business degree program at the Indiana Wesleyan College of Adult Professional Studies. Arthur is employed full time as a service representative with D.V. Waffle Company. Julia is completing Luke and Emily’s education at home and teams with Arthur in ministry. They still accept various speaking engagements throughout the country.
In 2008, the Vanderhoffs assumed the directorship of the Home School Festival which the Ryersons began in 2000. They joined the AHSN advisory committee in July, 2009.
